Police Identify Sandy Springs Shooting Victim,…

Pet Parade, ATL Paint Party, Atlanta Rollergirls & More Saturday Fun

It's not all about the Dogwood Festival on Saturday.

With the Dogwood Festival in full swing, hopefully Mother Nature will cooperate on Saturday. But there is a 60 percent chance of rain Saturday with temperatures expected to reach the low 70s.

With the 76th annual festival expected to bring thousands to the Midtown area, traffic will be congested around Piedmont Park. Still, there are other options to fill your day.

Maybe volunteering is on your Saturday planner. On Friday, Atlanta Gas Light held a successful volunteer effort in collecting trash along the south portion of the company’s adopted BeltLine segment in celebration of Earth Day. (See pictures with this article)

And on Saturday, Comcast invites Atlanta to make a difference in the community by volunteering at the 11th annual Comcast Cares Day 2012. Comcast Cares Day volunteers will help the Atlanta Community Food Bank and other organizations to improve the community.

At the , volunteers will prepare food boxes for distribution. Other activities will include gardening projects such as planting monkey grass and juniper bushes, along with miscellaneous grounds clean-up.

Thirty-two different community projects will be held across metro Atlanta and more than 3,000 area Comcast employees and volunteers are expected to commit their morning to helping local schools, parks and non-profit organizations. See comcastcaresatlanta.com to learn how you can get involved.

Dog and cat lovers and owners are encouraged to participate in the Atlanta Humane Society's 22nd Annual Pet Parade on Saturday morning. On-site registration begins at 9 a.m., opening ceremonies begin at 10 a.m., followed by a one-mile walk around Atlantic Station at 11 a.m. Other festivities include:

  • Pet Adoptions
  • Micro-Chipping Station
  • Pet Vendor Market
  • Games
  • Pet Contests
  • Raffles
  • Training Demonstrations
  • Local Rescue Organizations

Pet Parade is one of the largest fundraising efforts for Atlanta Humane Society.  One hundred percent of proceeds and contributions benefit homeless pets at Atlanta Humane Society.  Visit www.atlantapetparade.org for more information.

Come out and support women's roller derby Saturday as the Atlanta Rollergirls have a doubleheader at the Yaarab Shrine Center located at 400 Ponce de Leon Avenue. The first game starts at 5 p.m. and the second at 7:30 p.m. See here for more info.

Finally, the ATL Paint Party will be quite the colorful scene Saturday night at 455 14th Street. See here for more information and here’s how the event’s promoters describe it:

Florescent body paint flying amid an amazing lights and special effects show all night long! Free paint drops, Cryo Cannons blasting all around with R. Garcia, Dub Step, Queen Billie Jeanz and some special unannounced guests providing the soundtrack!

In the basement "Darkroom," black lights and lasers are the only light you will have as you dance to the glow of the paint, dripping from your face.

LIVE body painting on stage, freak shows and more will be crawling all over this formerly abandoned church in the heart of Atlanta!

WEAR WHITE cloths and be prepared...that will certainly change

Food Trucks on hand to feed the masses and a full bar to keep the party lubed. 21+ only.

The best way to make a positive difference is to just drop COMCAST! Their service is $LOPPY, over priced & the cable shows have way too many commercials. I'm quite happy with the FREE, OVER THE AIR, DIGITAL CHANNELS I RECEIVE.
