Piedmont Park Expansion Nears Completion

Construction nears completion on the Piedmont Park Conservancy's park expansion.

The paths are paved. The bridges are built. The new interactive fountain is streaming water. It seems a large portion of the Piedmont Park expansion is nearing completion. 

Piedmont Park Conservancy officials have said Phase One of the 53-acre expansion project will be finished by spring. That phase will improve the 41 acres of land that is located north of the Park Drive bridge and extends to Piedmont Avenue near Ansley Mall.

A spokeswoman with the conservancy could not be reached Monday. But an April 29 event to celebrate the wedding of Prince William of Wales to Kate Middleton . The event will be held at the new Legacy Fountain in Piedmont Park, which the conservancy claims will rival the fountain at Centennial Olympic Park.

Construction on Phase One began in 2007. Improvements have included an expanded dog park, new bocce ball courts and renovation of the Greystone building and public pool.
