Plumbing Issues Close Piedmont Dog Park

Construction should be complete by the end of the week.

The dog parks at are temporarily closed.

"We've had some plumbing issues," Aimedra Kelley, spokeswoman for the , said Monday. "We are working to fix them."

The closure of the dog parks was announced Aug. 9 on the Piedmont Pup Twitter page. Signs are posted at the parks.

Construction should be complete by the end of the week, Chris Nelson, executive vice president of the conservancy, said Monday in a prepared statement. 

Nelson said improvements are being made to the drainage and plumbing systems.

"We are installing brand new tamper-proof, self-closing faucets and improved splash pads," Nelson said. "The new faucets are for hydrating pets only! Pet washing or any other use is not allowed." 

Some artists working on projects near the dog parks said there was a sinkhole in the area.

The conservancy would not confirm if there was a sinkhole. 

The Piedmont Dog Park was renovated last year. Features include a nearly three-acre dog run and separate enclosures for large and small dogs.
