Remembering 'Snowpocalypse'

Sure, it's been wet and gloomy the past few days, and some of the coldest weather of the year is expected the next few days.

But last year at this time, by a record snowfall. Here are some photos from the week-long event deemed "Snowpocalypse." The storm hit Jan. 9-10, and schools didn't reopen until Jan. 18.

It might be windy Thursday, with a 20 percent chance of rain after 1 p.m., and  cold and blustery this weekend, but conditions will be far different from last year, when the city was pretty much shut down by the winter storm.

Thursday night, the North Georgia mountains are expected to receive some snow, but Midtown should be free of it. And along with the cold weather, sunshine is expected to return this weekend. Here is the National Weather Service's seven-day forecast.

Of course, winter's just begun, so we could still receive another significant snowfall. Keep those sleds handy, kids.
