White Provision to Welcome New Women's Clothing Boutiques

Longtime Thai restaurant Royal Orchid closes and more Monday morning Midtown news to use.

It’s Monday, so catch up on some Midtown news to begin the work/school week.

What Now Atlanta reported late Sunday that Royal Orchid has recently shut its doors for good. The Thai restaurant located in the Midtown Promenade closed its business on Feb. 5. It comes a little more than a year after another Asian restaurant, the award-winning NAM Vietnamese restaurant, closed in the same shopping center.

A sign posted in the Royal Orchid window reads, “Dear customers, we regret to inform you that Royal Orchid Thai Cuisine officially closed its business on Feb. 5, 2012.

While that Midtown establishment is gone, a pair of new retailers are on the way to West Midtown’s White Provision. The Atlanta Business Chronicle recently reported that clothier Free People and Calypso St. Barth will soon be coming to the mixed-use development at Howell Mill Road and 14th Street.

Free People is a women’s clothing and accessory boutique and Calypso retails women’s clothing and home décor. The ABC reports that combined with the previously announced additions of running and yoga outfitter , and a retail store from fashion designer Billy Reid, the quartet of new retailers will occupy close to 10,000 square feet at the White Provision development.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported today that unless a higher court overturns a lower court's order, Wednesday will be when the Metro Atlanta Task Force for the Homeless will have to hand over the over Peachtree-Pine homeless shelter to the United Way of Metropolitan Atlanta.

The news outlet indicates that many homeless advocates are concerned that ultimately the 500 or so homeless men who stay at the shelter will join the more than 2,000 documented men and women who already live each day and night on the streets of Atlanta.

And finally, the Atlanta Public Schools Board of Education is set to hold a special legislative meeting this afternoon at 3:30. The meeting will take place at the Center for Learning and Leadership Auditorium located at 130 Trinity Avenue.
