Cousins Properties Commissions Local Artists to Showcase Works in the Promenade

Four local visual artists have been selected to have their works of art displayed in the Promenade in Midtown Atlanta.

According to a statement from Cousins Properties, the owners of the building, this art installment is part of, "a broad arts-based component to its renovations of Promenade, the Midtown office tower in the heart of Atlanta’s arts district."

A Cousins spokesperson says that they selected the work of six artists to be on permanent display, including a sculpture from Atlanta’s Tristan Al-Haddad (a GA Tech graduate) to be installed facing 15th Street and 3 other local artists, John Folsom, Deanna Sirlin, and Maxey Andress.

In a release, Midtown Patch learned that Cousins has also created an “artist in residence” program which provides a local artist studio space to work within the building. "The artist, in turn, provides a window to creativity, inspiring those who work in or visit the building," writes Cousins.

Atlanta artist Maxey Andress was chosen as Promenade’s first artist-in-residence.

Andress’ art is described as exploring moments, movements and juxtapositions that are familiar yet mysterious and visually contrasting. During his time in residence, his works will be displayed throughout the building. Ultimately he will produce a work to go into the building’s permanent collection.

“We want our office buildings and projects to be places where people find inspiration for big ideas. As our portfolio grows, you’ll see us explore how we can connect and create inspiring places,” said John McColl, executive vice president of Cousins Properties.

John McColl says that the arts program is part of Cousins’ substantial investments to upgrade Promenade.

Up to now, Cousins says they have completed the following at Promenade:
1) renovated the lobby on the garden level; 2) built a new fitness facility called Pulse Fitness; 3) added The Bean Counter coffee shop and chef-driven Bistro 1230 restaurant; 4) installed free Wi-Fi throughout the common areas; 5) enhanced the landscaping and redesigned the entry from 15th St. to improve pedestrian access; 6) and improved signage and circulation in the parking structure, including naming the parking levels after famous artists to tie into the surrounding arts district.
