About the Henry F. McCamish Jr. Arena

(Note: This is an Under Construction Tour. Closed toe shoes and hard hats required)

Address: 965 Fowler Street NW, Atlanta, GA 30332 (2nd tour-McCamish)

The AMC Replacement Facility project is a major renovation of the existing 9,000 seat Alexander Memorial Coliseum (GT Basketball Complex) to be renamed the Henry F. McCamish Jr. Arena.  The renovated facility will provide for a state-of-the-art collegiate basketball playing and viewing venue. The renovation will consist of a 30,000 SF concourse expansion with upgraded concessions, bathrooms, a team apparel store, and other amenities.  The seating bowl will be entirely reconfigured to provide better site-lines, wider seats, more leg room, code compliant aisles, risers, and treads (which are currently not code compliant), as well as an additional 10,000 SF of new space under the seating bowl.  This space will be used as team meeting rooms and bathrooms for both GT and the visiting team, officials locker rooms, and house some much needed storage for GT’s basketball operations.  An upper deck of seats (approx 2,000 seats) will be added as well. The new bowl will also include a state of the art center hung scoreboard, a 360 degree LED ribbon board around the perimeter of the upper deck, and a new sound system.  The result of the new seating bowl will be a shorter distance from the fan’s “nose to center court”, and upgraded A/V components will lead to a much enhanced fan experience.  The facility does not currently have a “main entrance”.  Fans currently utilize 3 separate entrances.  The new design incorporates a main “Grand Entrance” for fans to enter the building which will create a sense of pageantry and excitement as well as serve as a better means of access control to the facility and ticket collection for Georgia Tech

The facility’s MEP systems will be completely replaced with new highly efficient systems.  The design and construction goal for the facility is to achieve LEED Gold.

The construction schedule is 18 months.  Work began in May of 2011 and is scheduled to complete in October 2012, in time for the 2012-2013 collegiate basketball season.
