Save Time, Money and the Environment by “Dumping the Pump” and Taking MARTA

Ride MARTA trains or buses on June 16th and be part of Dump the Pump day.  MARTA, along with transit agencies across the country, are celebrating the American Public Transportation Association’s (APTA) sixth annual “Dump the Pump” Day. This event encourages people to try transit and learn about the many ways it contributes to improving our quality of life.

The latest APTA Transit Savings Report shows that a two person household in Atlanta that downsizes to one car can save, on average, more than $9,000 a year.  This estimate is based on current gas prices, monthly parking rates, and a person purchasing a 30-day Breeze pass. To learn just how much you can save, visit MARTA’s transit calculator at www.itsmarta.com.

Each day, MARTA helps to take over 100,000 cars off the road – relieving traffic congestion and improving our region’s air quality. Even those who don’t take MARTA enjoy the benefits it provides. If MARTA stopped operating, annual traffic delays in Atlanta would increase by approximately 1.25 million hours and burden our region with an additional $245 million in congestion costs, which includes gas consumption, tardy deliveries and loss of employee productivity.
