Long-Time Atlanta Resident Wins Photo Contest

Bruce Johnson's photo of diving teenagers wins top summer prize.

Bruce Johnson won the Midtown Patch Summer Photo Contest with a shot of teenagers diving off a bridge in New York state.

Midtown Patch readers voted Johnson’s photo their favorite

A 21-year resident of the Atlanta area, Johnson works as sales and marketing director for the in Midtown. Currently, Johnson lives in Snellville with his wife, Lisa, and son, Matt.

Johnson said he considers himself an amateur photographer.

"I'm the person in the family that is always snapping photos at every gathering and vacation and receives all of the 'eye rolls,'" he said in an email.

Johnson was visiting his wife's hometown of Lyndonville, N.Y., for a family gathering on July 4 when he shot the winning photo.

"During the afternoon, a group of teenagers (including some of my nieces and nephews) announced they 'were going swimming and bridge jumping,'" Johnson said. "I followed the group to a bridge just outside of town. I got a bunch of great shots but the one I submitted for the contest was my favorite."

The two boys pictured in photo are: Badr Mustafa (foreground), a foreign exchange student from Egypt, and Billy Covell, Johnson's nephew. Mustafa had lived with the Covell family for a year and now is part of the extended family, Johnson said.

"He was visiting the family and this was his first time jumping from the bridge, which makes his perfect form all the more impressive," Johnson said.

Midtown Patch thanks all of those who entered our Summer Photo Contest. We had some great shots!
