New Cavalia Production to Set Up at Tech Square

U.S. premiere of equestrian-themed production "Odysseo" will pitch its tent in Midtown this winter.

The U.S. premiere of Cavalia's new production "Odysseo" will be held this winter in the heart of Midtown.

On Thursday, organizers announced that the equestrian-themed production will open Dec. 7 at the Centergy parking lot at Spring and 8th streets in Technology Square. Cavalia previously was held at Atlantic Station when the show visited in 2009.

Odysseo will be performed under a tent more than twice the size of the one used in 2009 (check out the video to the right of the show's setup in Montreal). The production features 69 horses and 55 artists.

“It’s only because of horses that humans were able to imagine that they could travel to the ends of the world," Cavalia's President and Artisitic Director Normand Latourelle, who also helped found Cirque du Soleil, said in an announcement Thursday.

"The horse is a powerful and natural wonder. This animal enabled mankind to build bridges between cultures, to create alliances amongst people and thus freely roam the planet. He has been one of the most important instruments in the evolution of humanity. This is the essence of Odysseo.”

The production is scheduled to run Dec. 7, 2011 through Jan. 8, 2012. But Cavalia organizers at recent neighborhood meetings said that the show could be extended if tickets sales are good.
