SCAD Presents deFINE ART 2011

Savannah College of Art and Design to hold program of fine art showcasing lectures, exhibitions, performances and public events Feb. 22 through 26.

Feb. 22 through 26, the Atlanta campus of  will present the second deFINE ART program. The five-day event features lectures by prominent figures in the art world, special exhibitions, commissions, student showcases, performances and other events.

All events are free and open to the public.

Contemporary artist Marina Abramović will deliver the keynote lecture. 

Gary Tinterow, curator of 19th-century, modern and contemporary art at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, will give a talk on the history of the collection of modern and contemporary art at the museum.

Sarah Thornton, contributing writer for The Economist and author of the bestselling book “Seven Days in the Art World,” will talk about her new book called “Seven Days in the Art World…and Counting," a funny series of nonfiction narratives.

Sarah Lewis, independent curator and critic, will conduct a lecture called “What are We Failing to See? Tales of Curating and Writing." She also will discuss her forthcoming book called "Rise."

Paul D. Miller aka DJ Spooky that Subliminal Kid, an experimental hip-hop musician, author and conceptual artist, will present his latest large-scale multimedia performance, “Terra Nova: Sinfonia Antarctica.”
