SCAD to Hold Style and Design Event

SCAD Style will run April 25 through 28.

This week, the of Savannah College of Art and Design will host SCAD Style 2011, the university's signature style and design event. World-renowned artists, designers and industry professionals will speak at the school April 25 through 28. All lectures are free and open to the public.

Monday, April 25:

"The Sartorialist" Scott Schuman, founder and photographer behind the blog The Sartorialist that features street fashion from around the world, will speak. The New York Times called the blog “the bellwether American site that turned photo blogging into an art form.” The lecture will be held at 5:30 p.m. at SCAD Atlanta, 1600 Peachtree Street.

Wednesday, April 27:

Waris Ahluwalia, the jewelry designer behind the House of Waris, will speak. The House of Waris is known for handcrafted jewerly, which is made by artisans in India. Ahluwalia, in the past year, was placed on Vanity Fair's Best Dressed List. He was anointed British GQ's No. 2 best dressed man internationally and included in Vogue's 10 Most Impactful People of 2010. The lecture will be held at 6 p.m. at SCAD Atlanta, 1600 Peachtree Street.

Thursday, April 28:

Whitney Robinson, senior editor from Town & Country, and Lisa Perry, a fashion designer who collects 1960s vintage couture fashion, will discuss the book Valley of the Dolls. The book by Jacqueline Susann is celebrating its 45th anniversary. Accompanying the discussion about the style of the 1960s, will be a behind-the-scenes documentary on the making of the book and the film. The event will be held at 3 p.m. at SCAD Atlanta, 1600 Peachtree Street. 

A screening of "Bill Cunningham New York" will be shown. The documentary is about The New York Times photographer. It shows Cunningham, an octogenarian, riding his Schwinn bicycle to cover benefits, galas and fashion shows around Manhattan. The film will be shown at 5:30 p.m. at SCAD Atlanta, 1600 Peachtree Street.
