Coca-Cola Gives $6 Million to Organizations, Including Several in Midtown

Nature Conservancy, Woodruff Arts Center given substantial grants.

The Coca-Cola Foundation has awarded more than $6 million in grants to 31 organizations across the country.

Several Midtown-based organizations are among the recipients, including the , which received $1 million in grant money from Coca-Cola. 

“The Nature Conservancy in Georgia protects Georgia’s woods, waters and coast for future generations,” said Shelly Lakly, state director for the Conservancy in Georgia. “The Coca-Cola Company’s generous support of our work will help ensure our natural resources and wild places will endure.”

Here are other Midtown-based organizations that received grants:

  • Robert W. Woodruff Arts Center -- $500,000
  • Atlanta Music Project -- $50,000
  • Atlanta Leadership Development Foundation -- $25,000
  • The Georgia Charter Schools Association -- $50,000

The Coca-Cola Foundation donated the money in honor of the beverage company's 125th anniversary.

“Throughout our history, we have worked to bring a little happiness into the everyday lives of Americans and to support charities, colleges, universities and community organizations across the country," Lori George Billingsley, vice president of community relations with Coca-Cola Refreshments, said in a release. 

“We can work together for another century and beyond by promoting and creating sustainable communities," Billingsley said.
