Staff Report

Goodwill of North Georgia will open the doors at its Northside Drive store Thursday morning at 9 a.m. The facility, located at 1460 Northside Drive, is the 40th store for the nonprofit and the 20th it has opened since 2007.

Those who visit the store during the first four days of business (March 22 – 25) will also have the opportunity to enter hourly drawings for Goodwill gift certificates.

“We planned for this,’’ said Goodwill’s Director of Public Relations Elaine Armstrong in a news release. “Our strategic plan called for the aggressive growth we’re experiencing. Still, it’s humbling and impressive to truly see our organization double in size in just five years time.”

Like its other stores, the Northside Drive location includes a store with 12,500 square feet of sales floor space and drive-up donation center. Goodwill says shoppers will find it to be a great place to save money on clothes, books and other household items and donors will enjoy the convenience of a drive-up donation center.

“For the first time since the early 1970s, we’re bringing our unique shopping experience back to the heart of the city and giving its residents to opportunity to help put thousands of people to work by supporting their local Goodwill,” Armstrong said.

The organization uses the sale of donated goods to help support a myriad of job training programs and employment services it provides to more than 30,000 North Georgians each year. The new store also allowed Goodwill to create 40 jobs that previously did not exist.
