Muncheez to join Northside Tavern

Food stand to open July 10 on blues club property.

An outdoor food vendor soon will have a home at one of Atlanta's best blues clubs.

Four "neighborhood guys" in early July plan to open Muncheez in the parking lot of , according to one of the managers, West Midtown resident and Georgia Tech grad Rommel Chatman.

"So many people love the Northside Tavern," Chatman said, for its great live music and dive bar atmosphere. But the bar doesn't serve food.

"People want to go somewhere to eat" after partying in the trendy Westside.

The solution: Set up a stationary food trailer with an already awesome food concept.

The two men, Rich Brown and Bobby Parker, that started the first Muncheez -- which sits at Bim's Liquor Store on West Marietta Street -- are assisting Chatman and his business partner, Jaime Thursby, in opening and managing the new location.

"We want to be a permanent fixture in the neighborhood," said Chatman, a long-time bartender in Atlanta who has worked at Northside Tavern for two years.

A soft opening for family and friends is planned for July 3, he said. The grand opening is set for July 10.

With proximity to late-night spots including mega-club Compound and sorta-secret tavern , Chatman has high hopes for the business.

"We are going to be off the chain Friday and Saturday nights," he said. "That corner at night is pretty wild."

Muncheez will serve staples including burgers, hot dogs, wings, salads and a variety of sandwiches. The food stand also will offer less typical items such as fried Snickers bars and buffalo calamari.

Wait ... what?

"That's right, everyone loves calamari, and everyone loves buffalo wings," Chatman said. "It's the best of both worlds."

The truck will operate:

  • Monday - Wednesday: 11 a.m. to 12 a.m.
  • Thursday - Saturday: 11 a.m. to 4 a.m.
  • Sunday: 11 a.m. to 12 a.m.

Chatman said Muncheez will deliver food, too.

With its spot at a top blues bar in the cool Westside, Chatman doesn't think he can miss with the business endeavor. "It's a perfect storm," he said.
