'New Breed' of Sports Bar coming to 12th Street

Itza Sports Bar to open this fall.

Midtown is getting a new sports bar.

ITZA Sports Bar is set to open this fall on 12th Street. The bar will take over the former Leopard Lounge near Crescent Avenue.

The approximately 5,000-square-foot ITZA will be a "new breed of sports bar," according to Todd Semrau with Urban Eats Consulting Group (a restaurant group with clients including Tin Lizzy's, Six Feet Under and food truck Tex's Tacos).

Here's how Semrau described ITZA to Midtown Patch:

ITZA is a new breed of sports bar that celebrates not only team sports but also the individual athlete in all of us.

The popularity of extreme sports, triathlons, ultimate Frisbee, snow boarding, etc. has created a whole new group of athletes who take pride in pioneering new acts of athleticism. The ITZA brand harnesses that spirit in all aspects of the brand.

The menu is craft-driven with a focus on local and sustainable proteins and vegetables.

The interior design is communal affair with a simple, west coast rustic vibe. A 30-wood bar featuring American bourbons, whiskeys and a large selection of small-batch breweries is tended by a trained staff of mixologists. Other features include a trellis garden street side patio, a subterranean sports lounge and a state-of-the-art electronics system.

The sports bar will be open for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch.
