RBC changing to PNC Bank

Changeover occurs this weekend; bank branches will close one hour early on Friday in preparation for the conversion.

More than 400 RBC Bank branches, including more than 50 in the greater Atlanta region, will change to PNC bank this weekend, according to an announcement.

Pittsburgh-based PNC Financial Services Group announced last summer that it would acquire the U.S. retail banking operations of Royal Bank of Canada, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. PNC will rank seventh in the metro area in deposits, the AJC said.

The bank branches will close one hour early on Friday, March 2, in preparation for the conversion, a news release said. In Midtown, has a branch at 75 5th Street.

“This represents an opportunity for customers to be part of one of the nation's strongest banking institutions with service from the same familiar faces,” Rick Lewis, Atlanta retail banking market manager for PNC Bank, said in a statement. “PNC recognizes the importance of making this transition simple for customers. The communications started Jan. 1 to prepare everyone for the biggest single conversion in the bank’s 160-year history.”
 
PNC’s products and services include PNC Virtual Wallet, an online interactive money management solution; PNC points, available with select accounts to reward everyday purchases; free online banking and bill pay; plus credit cards, loans and credit lines. With RBC Bank, PNC expands to more than 2,900 branches in 19 states plus the District of Columbia with access to 7,100 ATMs nationwide.
 
Lewis noted that during conversion weekend, PNC is adding call center staff to answer questions. Information also is available on www.welcometopnc.com.

Here's a timeline on what customers can expect during the conversion weekend. All times are Eastern Standard Time.
 
Friday, March 2

  • 7 a.m. PNC customer service is available until 10 p.m.: 1-855-680-5870.
  • 8 a.m. Activate and start using PNC Bank check card/banking card. Personal ID number (PIN) remains the same.
  • 8 a.m. RBC Bank ATMs are PNC Bank ATMs.
  • 4 p.m. RBC Bank Online Banking is no longer available for accounts transferring to PNC Bank (until Monday at 8 a.m.).
  • 4 p.m. RBC Bank branches close for the weekend.
  • 4-6 p.m. PNC employees will be in branch parking lots to answer customer questions.

Saturday, March 3

  • 8 a.m. PNC customer service is available by phone until 5 p.m.: 1-855-680-5870.

Sunday, March 4

  • 8 a.m. PNC customer service is available by phone until 5 p.m.: 1-855-680-5870. 

Monday, March 5

  • Branches reopen as PNC Bank.
  • Customers will have new PNC Bank routing/transit and account numbers.
  • 7 a.m. PNC customer service is available until 10 p.m.: 1-855-680-5870.
  • 8 a.m. PNC Online, Mobile and Text Message Banking are available.
