Midtown is at the peak of its new development interest.

Last week, the Atlanta Business Chronicle (ABC) reported plans for a new Midtown skyscraper that would end up being (one of) the tallest in Atlanta.  The plans are to build 3 towers, one 56 stories, on the 4.5 acre site located at 98 14th Street.

According to ABC, "a team that includes New York-based Ashkenazy Acquisition Corp. and international design firm Arquitectonica is planning a nearly 2 million-square-foot development for Midtown’s long-vacant “symphony center” site."

Development plans call for 3 towers, the tallest would have 34 floors of residential and 22 floors of hotel, the other 2 towers would have 46 floors and used as residential.

Amazingly this development will fit in between One Atlantic Center and 1180 Peachtree tower.  For the complete story and filed documents, follow the link to the Atlanta Business Chronicle.

The proposed tower would in no way be the tallest skyscraper in Midtown let alone Atlanta. Residential floors are MUCH shorter than office floors which is why the 53 -story Four Seasons is shorter than 41-story 1180 Peachtree office building and much shorter than the 52-story One Atlantic Center. And in terms of number of floors, at 56-stories it will still be shorter than the 70-story Westin Peachtree Plaza hotel.

Obviously you 'borrowed' this story from What Now Atlanta who posted the same INCORRECT assumptions about this building. I've tried to correct them and now it's time to correct this site. This will not be the tallest building in Atlanta. Residential floor to height ratios simply will not equate for this to be possible. If you are going to post about these types of topics please acquire some knowledge on the topic before posting incorrect information. This is Journalism 101.

Wow, I read this thinking "are they adding a ginormous spire to the building?" but obviously whoever wrote this has no freaking clue what they are talking about. Midtown Patch just lost a huge amount of credibility with this insane headline. Tallest in Floors? Westin & Suntrust have 60+ floors. Tallest in Height? Bank of America 55-floors with giant spire.

Reader says: "The ABC article says one of the tallest, so while it may not actually be a new tallest it'll at least be quite significant and add a lot of foot traffic to 14th."

Tallest Skyscraper in Atlanta to be Built in Midtown ^^ this is what your headline says. Which is it??? Tallest or not the tallest??

Ummmm, do the writers of Midtown Patch actually live here? Any local or even new transplant would know this headline is no where near factual. And isn't the photo from "across the street" taken from 10th street - the article says 14th….

Both the websites What Now Atlanta and the ABC stated this would be ONE of the tallest skyscrapers in Atlanta, which definitely appears correct. So far I have not found the actual height in feet that the tallest would be, most likely still in planning stages, so not sure if this will actually be the tallest. We shall see.

People, chillax. Needless to say, the buildings are going to be tall.

Point of interest: The H.M. Patterson Funeral Home sits on the highest elevation in Midtown. When they built the what was the IBM tower they tried to buy the funeral home to build there but didn't get the deal done.
