Tesla Eyes Buckhead Store, Midtown Charging Location

The electric car company has plans to expand its business to downtown Atlanta within three to four months.

The electric car company that is challenging the traditional dealership business model is planning to set up shop in Atlanta, The Atlanta Business Chronicle reports.

Tesla Motors, the brainchild of billionaire Elon Musk, has filed a building permit with the City of Atlanta to construct a $330,000, 3,245 sq. ft. store near the Neiman Marcus store in Buckhead's Lenox Square.

Construction could be completed within three to four months, The Atlanta Business Chronicle reports. The Lenox Square location would join Tesla's Marietta store and a store and service center in Decatur.

In addition to the Buckhead expansion, Tesla also wants to install charging stations at Atlantic Station. A full charge takes an hour, and gives the Model S a 256 mile range.

The Tesla Model S is a fully electric car that runs in price from $70,000 to $120,000, though some eco-friendly state and federal tax credits take some of the bite out of the price tag.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Atlanta is the second-biggest electric car market in the United States, outpacing Seattle, Los Angeles, and San Diego. Atlanta was the only non-West Coast city to hit the top 14 markets for electric cars.
