U.S. job numbers lower than expected, but more coming to Midtown

Delta Community Credit Union intends to open a full-service branch location near the Peachtree and 10th street intersection later this summer.

The United States economy again added more jobs last March, but not as many as analysts had forecasted.

Many economists felt March’s numbers would have exceeded 200,000, but the U.S. Department of Labor said Friday that only 120,000 jobs were added last month, and that the unemployment rate dropped to just 8.2 percent from 8.3 percent.

There were 240,000 jobs added in February and some analysts suggested the stronger job gains in the previous two months were most likely seasonal.

Locally, it was announced this week that new jobs will be coming to Midtown late this summer as Delta Community Credit Union intends to open a full-service branch location near the Peachtree and 10th street intersection.

Located at 80 Peachtree Place, the new 4,200-square-foot branch will be in a building that was previously unoccupied for more than a decade.

“Bringing this new branch to Midtown marks an important landmark in our strategy for growth and success in 2012 and beyond. We have many members who already live, work or play in Midtown, and we are committed to being accessible when and where they need us,” said Rick Foley, president and CEO of Delta Community Credit Union, in a release.

Founded in 1940, Delta Community Credit Union is the state’s largest credit union. Unlike a for-profit bank, Delta Community is owned by its customers, not individual or institutional investors. Customers become member-owners when they open and maintain an account.

“In planning this location, we worked closely with the neighborhood’s design review committee to ensure that the site was pedestrian friendly and all exterior elements stayed true to the area’s eclectic feel. We look forward to serving this thriving in-town community and becoming a part of ‘where their financial lives come together,’” added Foley.
