"What'll Ya Have?"

Atlanta Hawks players and cheerleaders stop by The Varsity on Friday as part of the NBA's "Paint the Town" initiative to give fans opportunities to interact with players away from the court.

The Atlanta Hawks took over the The Varsity in Midtown for a couple of hours Friday afternoon to work and serve behind the counter and sign autographs to the post-lunch crowd at the world famous restaurant on North Avenue.

The Varsity has been serving Atlantans since 1928, but probably never has had as many tall workers screaming out “What’ll Ya Have?” from behind the registers as it did Friday.

Players Josh Smith, Zaza Pachulia, Anthony Morrow, Kyle Korver, DeShawn Stevenson, Anthony Tolliver, Mike Scott, James Anderson and Damion James were joined by the Atlanta Hawks Fan Force, Harry the Hawk, and the Atlanta Hawks Cheerleaders as part of the NBA’s "Paint the Town" initiative to give fans opportunities to interact with players away from the court.

“We are excited to be celebrating the start of the Atlanta Hawks 2012-13 season with our city at one of the most famous landmarks in Atlanta,” Bob Williams, President, Atlanta Hawks and Philips Arena, said in a release. “This is a fun, unique way for our players to engage with our fans in the market and show our appreciation for all that is Atlanta.”

The Hawks continue their preseason schedule Sunday night at Memphis and will play a pair of exhibition home games this coming week versus New Orleans on Thursday, Oct. 18 and against Dallas on Saturday, Oct. 20.
