Midtown's TSW Wins Two Georgia Planning Association Awards

TSW, a full-service planning, architecture and landscape architecture firm headquartered in Midtown (www.tsw-design.com), has received two planning awards from the Georgia Planning Association.  The awards were announced at the association’s Fall Conference this past weekend.  TSW won the Outstanding Planning Document award for its work on the Augusta Sustainable Development Implementation Program and Outstanding Planning Process, Large Community Award for Alpharetta’s Envision Main Street initiative.

“The Augusta Sustainable Development Implementation Program is a detailed multi-modal transportation corridor plan for a 4.5-mile main thoroughfare that runs north-south through the core of the city,” said Adam Williamson, TSW principal.  “The plan follows HUD’s Guidelines and Livability Principles and calls for revising current codes to facilitate higher-density, mixed-use and mixed-income development, along with green, affordable housing.  It also includes an implementation program for a cluster of transit-oriented development neighborhoods along the corridor.  http://augustasustainable.com/

“Alpharetta’s Envision Main Street Initiative is focused on redesigning the town’s historic Main Street to better serve the community’s current and future needs,” said Thomas Walsh, TSW Principal.  “Through a series of interactive community meetings and a visual preference survey, we collected and analyzed ideas from residents, business owners, local employees, shoppers, diners, visitors and regional commuters and distilled these ideas into a single, shared community vision.  The plan includes reducing vehicular speeds to increase safety and livability, lane changes to provide optimal capacity and accessibility, improved pedestrian safety and experience, shared pedestrian/bicycle facilities, additional on-street parking and streetscapes designed for outdoor dining and strolling.”  http://envisionmainstreetalpharetta.com/
