Cristo Rey Atlanta Develops Work Study Program with Support of Atlanta Business Community

So far more than 35 corporations in Atlanta have committed to provide workplace experiences for future Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School students as part of the school’s unique Corporate Work Study Program.

By committing to the Corporate Work Study Program, companies have agreed to hire a team of four Cristo Rey students to collectively work a full-time position at the company, and pay a fee to Cristo Rey that offsets 60 percent of the cost of education. The program requires students to work five days a month in entry-level clerical jobs at law firms, hospitals, banks, and other professional institutions.

“We are overwhelmed by the support we have received from the local Atlanta business community in helping to develop our Corporate Work Study Program,” said Bill Herald, Director of Corporate Work Study Program for Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School. “These companies are offering future students an invaluable experience to not only fund the majority of their private education, but also develop real life work skills and grow in self-confidence.”

Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School is scheduled to open in the fall of 2014 in Midtown with an inaugural freshman class of 125 students. The school is currently accepting applications for the 2014 freshman class. The school accepts students of all denominations and is open to residents across Metro Atlanta and surrounding counties.

Cristo Rey Network schools primarily serve urban students in economically disadvantaged neighborhoods with limited educational opportunities.  The average household income for a family of four is $35,000 and 96 percent of the students within the Cristo Rey Network of schools are students of color.  Students served by CRAJ will mirror these demographics. In 2013, 100 percent of Cristo Rey Network graduates were accepted to college.
