Midtown Real Estate - The Corner of 16th and Peachtree!

Midtown's religious property is valuable and central to the life of the city. First Presbyterian at the corner of 16th and Peachtree is an excellent example.

There are more than 700 churches and synagogues, mosques and temples inside the perimeter! Someone has said that Atlanta is a town with a church on every corner and Midtown is no exception. From The Temple on the North End to on the South End of Midtown, there are a variety of religious properties in central Atlanta.

I happened to have worked for ten years on the pastoral staff at the of Atlanta at the corner of 16th and Peachtree, next door to the High Museum of Art. As a commercial real estate professional as well as a Presbyterian Minister, FPC is front and center in Midtown religious real estate.

The building was constructed in 1917 and has stained glass windows by Louis Tiffany. Over the decades, the building has grown to fill the block on which it sits and anyone in Midtown at lunchtime hears the bells playing to signal a pause to consider the larger aspects of life. The church is a special place of gathering not only for members but also for the surrounding community during religious holiday times as well as for community services to hungry and homeless people.

There is no way to estimate the value of that particular piece of real estate and I don't envy the appraiser who would ever have that task. Back in the 90s there was a New Year's Eve celebration that many of us long-timers remember - First Night.  First Presbyterian was the venue for several musical and theatrical events that night each year.

A city's religious property is one of its defining characteristics. Midtown religious property is not only quite valuable but continues to be central to the life of the city.
