APD Arrest Man After Snatch & Grab Robbery on 17th Street

Man robs woman getting off the shuttle at Atlantic Station, he was captured moments later.

The Atlanta Police Department met with Midtown Patch to share information about a robbery incident that happened Monday evening just outside of Atlantic Station.

According to Lieutenant Jeff Cantin, "on 6-17-2013 around 7:30pm officers responded to an armed robbery call in the 400 block of 17th St in the area of Atlantic Station."  Cantin says that a woman who was by herself had just exited the Atlantic Station shuttle, "with a bag of groceries when a male suspect approached her, displayed what appeared to be a tool handle (ax handle) and demanded her purse."

The victim, at first, thought it was a joke as she turned around to confront the person behind her.  As she turned, the man stole her purse and ran to a getaway car.  According to Lt. Cantin, "officers quickly responded to the area and located the vehicle parked at a service station a short distance away at 14th and Northside Drive.  As officers approached, the driver attempted to flee on foot but was quickly captured."

APD says that they found an "ax handle along with the victim’s purse in plain view inside the suspect’s vehicle."

Lt. Cantin urges people around Atlantic Station to try to walk in groups, and to be extra aware of your surroundings.  He also says that if you do find yourself a victim, give them what they want and try your best to get a good description of the perpetrators and their getaway car.
