Atlanta Remembers September 11

Eleven years have passed since the 9/11 terrorist attacks on America and ceremonies are scheduled nationally and locally to remember the day, honor the victims and celebrate the actions of Americans in the aftermath of the attacks.

Tuesday is the 11-year anniversary of the terrorist attacks that brought down the World Trade Center in New York City and damaged the Pentagon.

Ceremonies are scheduled nationally and locally to remember the day, honor the victims and celebrate the actions of Americans in the aftermath of the attacks. But now that it's more than 10 years since the attacks, there is a quieter approach to the anniversary. Those in public safety, however, will never forget.

On Monday in downtown, members of the Atlanta fire and police departments gathered for a ceremony that centered on the first responders who were among those who perished in the attacks.

On Tuesday on the Georgia Tech campus, there will be a 9/11 memorial service honoring those who died 11 years ago. The 11 a.m. ceremony will be held in front of the Skiles Classroom Building, located at 686 Cherry Street.

Three years ago, September 11th was officially designated as a National Day of Service and Remembrance to commemorate the 9/11 victims and survivors, and to honor those who rose up in service in response to the attacks.

On Tuesday, employees of the Midtown-based independent investment firm Invesco, Ltd, will participate in a variety of volunteer events around the city including helping feed the homeless at Crossroads Ministries, on the edge of south Midtown at 435 Peachtree Street.
