Midtown Residents Gather for National Night Out

The event featured live music and a visit from Atlanta Police Chief George Turner.

Dozens of Midtown residents gathered at Myrtle Street and 5th Street on Tuesday night to celebrate , an event designed to develop relationships between citizens and the public safety officers who serve their neighborhoods.

Hosted by the Midtown Neighbors' Association, the gathering allowed residents to meet police officers, firefighters and public officials.  

Residents were also treated to live music performed by Mike Moerlins of Mike and the Mini Machine Guns.

Mary Moerlins said she was glad to see how many people turned out. The event "is fun for children. They love seeing the inside of the police car and the fire truck."

Holly Hollingsworth also praised the event.

"I feel better knowing that our policeman are getting to know the people they see on a day to day basis," she said. "That's what this is about."

Residents joined Atlanta police officers after the event for the Shining Light Walk, patrolling together with flashlights to "shine a light on crime."
