Rain Will Give Way to Gusting Wind, Creating Driving Hazards

A wind advisory has been forecast for tonight and Friday, with gusts as high as 35 mph possible.

As the pouring rain this morning showed us it's a wet day and expect it to stay that way. The National Weather Service forecast for Midtown put the chance for rain at 100 percent this afternoon, dropping to 20 percent tonight.

Rainfall amounts between a quarter and a half of an inch are possible.

It will get pretty cool tonight, with a low around 29. Rain won't be a problem, but wind will. Strong gusts that will make driving hazardous, especially for high profile vehicles.

A strong cold front was racing through the region this morning and afternoon. The National Weather Service says Friday will be a very brisk day, with very strong winds and cold air filtering into the region Thursday night and Friday morning behind the cold front. Strong sustained winds of 20-25 miles per hour with gusts of 35-40 miles per hour are possible across all of north and central Georgia from late Thursday through Friday. A wind advisory has been issued.

A wind advisory means that sustained wind speeds of at least 20 mph or gusts to 35 mph or stronger are expected.

Be careful while driving. Driving high profile vehicles may become difficult, especially along north to south oriented roads. Loose objects may be blown around as well, and  some tree limbs may be knocked down.

Friday night will give little relief from the wind, which drops to 10-15 mph and gusts up to 25 mph. Below freezing temperatures will greet you Saturday morning, as the overnight low will be 24.

Saturday will continue to be sunny, with a high near 52. But the wind will only be slightly diminished at 10-15 mph, and gusts up to 20 mph.
