The Week Ahead in Midtown

Some of the best bets: Steve Nygren talking about design at Switch Modern, a law school open house, a dialogue on the future of American education, two films at the High Museum and Steve Martin with the ASO.

1. Spotlight on Design featuring Steve Nygren. Nygren, the founder of Serenbe,  a 1,000-acre sustainable community in south Fulton, will speak at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Switch Modern at 1193 Howell Mill Rd NW, Atlanta. Free.

2. Thinking about law school? Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School will host the Discover Law School 101 program to encourage students from racial and ethnic minority groups to pursue a legal education. Also hosting are GSU, Emory, Mercer and UGA law schools. 6 p.m. Thursday at AJMLS’s Blackburn Conference Center, 1405 Spring St. NW, Atlanta. Free.

3. A dialogue on American education. Moderator Christine Romans, CNN anchor of Your Bottom Line, will be joined by a panel of experts in an open forum discussion about the future of education in the United States. 6 p.m. Thursday at the Woodruff Arts Center, 1280 Peachtree St NE. Free.

4. Two films at the High. In conjunction with the exhibition Frida & Diego: Passion, Politics, and Painting, the High Museum is screening the films ¡Qué viva México! at noon and Frida at 2 p.m in the Hill Auditorium every Saturday through May 11. Free.

5. Atlanta Symphony Orchestra Gala with Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers. Starts at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Woodruff Arts Center at 1280 Peachtree St NE, Atlanta. $45 and up.
