BEARING WITNESS: MEMORIES OF KRISTALLNACHT

This program commemorates the 75th anniversary of Kristallnacht. Kristallnacht, translated as 'the night of broken glass,' was a pogrom, or a coordinated series of attacks against Jews throughout Nazi Germany and Austria on November 9-10, 1938. Kristallnacht refers to the broken glass from the windows of Jewish-owned stores, buildings, and synagogues that lined the streets. At least 91 Jews were killed in the attacks and thousands were arrested and sent to concentration camps. Over 1,000 synagogues were burned or destroyed in addition to over 7,000 Jewish-owned businesses. The program will feature a 32-minute film with historical footage of the event and a panel discussion with witnesses to Kristallnacht.
