Local Nurses to be Honored at March of Dimes Nurse of the Year Awards

ATLANTA (Nov. 6, 2013) – The Georgia Chapter of the March of Dimes will announce the winners of the 4th Annual Nurse of the Year Awards on Saturday, November 23rd.

Nurses are the unsung heroes of the medical community.  Their work is demanding, their hours long.  Their quality care and compassion makes a difference in the lives of so many.  The March of Dimes Nurse of the Year Awards, presented in partnership with BlueCross and BlueShield of Georgia, pay tribute to the accomplishments of Georgia's most dedicated nurses from 16 different categories.

800 nurses from around the state were nominated for this honor and 300 have been selected as finalists in their respective categories.  Categories include advanced practice, behavioral health, emergency care, pediatrics and more.  Award winners will be announced during the Nurse of the Year gala, to be held at the Grand Hyatt in Buckhead.

“BlueCross and BlueShield of Georgia has been partnering with nurses in the state for 76 years and we are proud to be part of this event,” said Morgan Kendrick, President of BlueCross and BlueShield of Georgia.  “We have countless nursing professionals working in Georgia as case managers, utilization reviewers and nursing care call center representatives and we are excited that the March of Dimes is committed to recognizing the quality services that these healthcare professionals provide.”

The award recipients are determined by a distinguished selection committee comprised of health care professionals who screened the nomination forms in a blinded review process.  A complete list of finalists is available on the March of Dimes website at: marchofdimes.com/Georgia

Event partners include BlueCross and BlueShield of Georgia, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, Northside Hospital, Grady Health System, AmeriHealth Caritas, BDR Partners and McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. and Atlanta Magazine.
