Piedmont Heights "Master Planners" Meeting

The Piedmont Heights "Master Planners" are moving rapidly toward making their presentation to stakeholders, tentatively scheduled for Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at Rock Spring Presbyterian Church. All neighborhoods abutting Piedmont Heights are stakeholders and are encouraged to attend. The plan will focus on infrastructure not only inside Piedmont Heights but connectivity to all  neighbors as well.  The planners want your input.  

Important points of common concern with abutting residential neighborhoods include the intersections on Piedmont Road at Monroe Drive, Pelham Road, Montgomery Ferry Road, Rock Springs Road and Cheshire Bridge Road. However, Monroe Drive around the northern edge of Piedmont Heights abutting the Armour/Ottley area has by far the more serious problems. The intersections on Monroe Drive with Armour Drive, the access ramps to the Buford Highway Connector and to Piedmont Road as well as with Piedmont Circle, which connects to Piedmont Road at two different points, have the greatest impact on the  greater community. Addressing traffic flow through these intersections is the single most important aspect of the master plan.

Public transportation is perhaps not quite as high on most people's radar screens. Although there may not be BeltLine stations edging the neighborhoods or a MARTA, AMTRAK, Brain Train or multi-modal station in the Armour/Ottley area in the immediate future, residents should plan for them now as integral components of the future connectivity network. 

Also, what about sidewalks, streetscapes, pedestrian paths, green space? Peachtree Creek?  What about historical building and places which haven't been properly identified? These and other important quality of life issues will be significant components of the master plan.
