Midtown Readies for the Always Entertaining Atlanta Bed Race on 10/26

The Furniture Bank, founded in 1988 in response to the lack of furniture for families moving out of homeless shelters, provides essential household furniture to individuals and families moving out of homelessness, battling HIV/AIDS, and fleeing domestic violence.

The Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta will host the Third Annual Atlanta Bed Race (Formerly the Atlanta Mattress 500) on Saturday, October 26th individuals and 1,500 local families annually, with our primary focus on those who are moving out of homelessness, fleeing domestic violence and living with HIV/AIDS.

During the event, teams of 5 will race beds on wheels outside of IKEA. These teams will compete for the title of “Bed Race King,” along with other awards which include “Best Theme” and “Best Fundraiser.” Attendees can purchase raffle tickets with the chance of winning a 15 minute Shopping Spree at IKEA.

Attendees can also bring their gently used furniture, household items, bed linens and kitchen utensils to donate for what they anticipate in being their largest furniture drive in the history of the organization.

“We are very excited to include the furniture drive component this year; annually we recycle over 1300 tons of furniture which all benefit our clients. Our hope is increase our donation collection so we can service more individuals and families,” stated Pamela Owunta, Community Resource Manager.
