Patch Staff Report

Remaining committed to supporting the communities it serves, Delta Community Credit Union announced in January the recipients of its Philanthropic Fund and pledges to donate $70,000 to 15 organizations in metro Atlanta.

The grants, ranging from $500 to $10,000, will be distributed throughout 2014.

This month, Midtown-based Cool Girls, Inc. received the latest Philanthropic Fund grant in the form of a check for $7,500 today at Delta Community's Midtown Branch.

According to its website, Cool Girls' community partners, mentors, and volunteer networks support girls in all aspects of their development – breaking the cycles of poverty, low self-esteem, and teen pregnancy. Their life skills programs develop girls into confident women through education and exposure to a broader world of opportunity.

Other 2014 Delta Community Philanthropic Fund grant recipients include the Atlanta Community Food Bank, the Brain Tumor Foundation, Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta’s Reach Out and Read Program, the Cobb Schools Foundation, Girls Inc., Fayette Youth Protection, Georgia Health Sciences, the Georgia Center for Non-Profits, the Joseph Sams School, North Fulton Community Charities, Rocky Mount Elementary School, Sara Harp Minter Elementary School, St. Vincent de Paul and the YWCA of Greater Atlanta.

In addition to the 2014 Philanthropic Fund grants, Delta Community has a long-standing relationship with Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. It also maintains Serve & Deserve, a unique and innovative fundraising program that gives high school students the opportunity to raise money for charitable organizations and, in turn, receive matching in-kind donations for their schools.
