5 Things to Help Brighten Up a Room for Summer

Brought to you by Homesessive.com

Today we are sharing 5 easy tricks to brighten up the one special room this summer.  The tips come from our sister AOL-owned website, Homesessive.com, and include a number of photos that go along with these 5 tips.

1) Paint White Walls

Painting the walls of a room white, or even choosing an off-white shade, can instantly make a room feel more spacious. If you’re worried painting an entire room white could look a little clinical for your taste then just paint an accent wall instead. This works particularly well on walls with big windows, as it creates brightness on one side of a room that then projects onto the other walls making your room feel much more airy.

Don’t wait until someone buys you flowers to fill your home with them. Putting fresh flowers in the rooms you spend most time in is a cheap, quick and easy way to make your house feel a little more summery. Yellow flowers such as daffodils look particularly effective in rooms with white décor, but obviously you can pick whichever sort you prefer as long as they’re colourful.

4) Invest In New Flooring

Switching carpet and dark wooden floors for something lighter is an expensive but particularly effective way to brighten your home during the summer months. The good thing about light wooden or tiled flooring is that whilst it looks amazing during the summer, it can easily be adapted for the winter.

5) Add Wooden Decking to Your Garden

Spending more time outdoors is one of the luxuries that come hand in hand with the summer season, so it’s a good idea to make sure your garden lends itself to barbeques and hosting evening drinks. Having comfortable outdoor furniture is a must, but it’s even better if you can make a feature of your entertaining area by having decking fitted. You could integrate benches into the decking themselves, as well as counters for serving food and an outdoor fridge. Having a low level table with a fire pit in the middle is also an amazing addition to a decking area, as when the sun goes down and the night gets a little cooler it’s nice to be able to warm up by the heat of a fire.
