Embrace the Ugly with Designer Jonathan Adler, Plus 5 DIY Projects that Save $$$

Showcasing the inspiration Jonathan finds in the most unlikely people and places, Inspiration Point will add style, craft and joy to your life.

In the video, Iconic potter, designer, author and personality Jonathan Adler shares his unique perspective on creativity.  In this episode of Inspiration Point with John Adler, we go with Jonathan to Shelter Island and get a glimpse of how he finds beauty in items discarded or traditionally viewed as ugly. We also meet his gigantic 10' tall, macrame owl.

To go along with this video we also have 5 simple DIY projects that can you $100 or more without the need to hire someone!  The list was provided by one of our Aol Brand partners, Homesessive, and the full list can be found there.

1) Painting a room doesn’t take artistic ability and can save you a lot less than calling a professional. This is a cheap and easy way to re-vamp a basic room. Imagine the effect you hope to capture with your color choice and then go for it. Don’t forget to cover the floor and any surrounding furniture!

2) Making curtains doesn’t even require sewing! Grab a friend who knows how to sew or purchase a tutorial from your local bookstore. Not only will you save over $100 by not purchasing an expensive curtain set, you'll have more fun! Here's a tip before you start: make sure to consider what curtain length best suits the window.

3) With the help of studs and a basic tool kit you can mount your TV easily. This provides a better television watching experience and makes the set look a bit more elegant. There's no need to go out and purchase an expensive TV stand when you can do it yourself.

4) Mason jars can be used as glassware and plastic containers are very useful when left in the garage as storage for nails and other tools. Rather than spend more than necessary on shelving, simply use these items to keep organized.

5) Not all instances of leaky faucets require a professional. Just hit the hardware store for spare parts and replace them. Your bank account will be happy you did!!!
