Rooftop Restaurant Review: 5 Seasons Westside

Rating rooftop restaurants in Midtown. First stop: 5 Seasons Brewing Company in West Midtown.

One of the benefits of living in Atlanta is the extended porch season. Just remember that the next time you are crawling down the Connector at 5 miles per hour.  ;)

This blog series will highlight Midtown rooftop restaurants and rate them on a 1 to 5 scale on the following criteria:

  • View: Admittedly, view quality is subjective, but this is a photo blog so you can see for yourself --  1 is bad, 5 is good.
  • Food Quality:  This is on a 1 to 5 scale -- 1 means pass me a Lipitor, 5 means I'd eat here everyday and live til 90.  So there's a bias toward healthy food.
  • Drink Selection:  On the 1 to 5 scale, 1 means light mass-produced beer, 5 means craft beer, wine you wouldn't see at a grocery store and a full bar.  Again, biased -- I'm against cheap alcohol.
  • Crowd Level:  1 means you'll need to eat beforehand because it will be a while, 5 means you'll sit right down and eat.
  • Parking:  1 means you will pay for it; 5 means it is plentiful and free.

I will also sprinkle in some FYIs such as prices, the amount of time it takes for food to arrive once it has been ordered, and music.

Now that the ground-rules have been laid, here are my ratings for 5 Seasons Westside:

  • View:  3.  It's a different perspective of the buildings around 14th and Peachtree.  A new apartment building obscures the view of the Bank of America building.  It's not the best view, but it is nice.
  • Food Quality:  4.  I am reserving 5 in case something really blows my mind, but the food is really, really good.  The protein and produce is organic.  If the plates look small in the photos, it is because we ordered tapas.
  • Drink Selection:  5.  All the beer is brewed on the premises, and they offer a variety of styles.  There are a few wines on the menu and a full bar.  They even made me a customized cocktail.
  • Crowd Level:  5.  I was going to ask the hostess what an average wait time was, but there was no hostess.  So I asked the bartender, and he said there typically isn't a wait.
  • Parking:  5.  There is a parking deck attached to the restaurant with free parking.

It took 22 minutes for our food to come out.  The music was mostly reggae and instrumental.  Prices for entrees ranged between $12 and $27.

Minus a tenth of a point for closing at 10 pm. I don't care if it's Tuesday ...

Overall:  4.3
