ID Your Pets! Fulton County Animal Service’s Pet of the Week: Cassey

Cassey is a dog, cat and people lover! She came to us without identification. Want to make sure your pet finds their way home? Then read on . . .

Summer is a great season to spend time outside with your pet.  Whether you’re hiking with your dog or hanging out on the porch with your cat, your pet enjoys the extra quality time you spend with her.  But spending more time outdoors also increases the chance that your pet will get lost.  Did you know that the highest intake time for animal shelters nationwide is during the summer?  And the sad fact is that nearly one out of every three pets will get lost at some point during their lifetime, making identification crucial for all pets, even indoor cats.

Pet identification dramatically increases the chance that you will ever see your lost pet again.  The most important types of identification are: an ID tag containing your phone number, a license tag (required in Georgia) and a microchip.  A microchip is a device implanted beneath an animal's skin which can be read by a scanner to identify the animal. Microchips are available at many veterinary offices, and all animals adopted from Fulton County Animal Services (FCAS) and LifeLine Animal Project are microchipped.  Remember the story recently in the news about the lost dog from Indiana who ended up at Fulton County Animal Services?  Without her microchip, we would have never located her (very grateful) owners.  You can also improve your pet’s chances of making it home, by making sure they have all three forms of ID.

It’s Cassey, Our Gorgeous Pet of the Week!

Cassey is a prime example of a great pet without any identification.  This wonderful dog came to us already spayed, chunky and knowing many commands, so we know she belonged to someone.  But since she has no identification, she is now another shelter dog needing a home.  Cassey’s loving personality has won over the entire staff at FCAS!  She gets along with everyone, including dogs and cats.  She does have a heart murmur (maybe because she has such a big heart!), but she can still provide plenty of love, take walks and live a terrific life, as long as she doesn’t get overheated.  Please come into FCAS to meet Cassey and find out why she is everyone’s sweetheart!  Or, for more information, call Kerry at 404-613-9157 or email her at: kmoyershorton@fultonanimalservices.com.
