Is Atlanta A Fashion Disaster?

Travel + Leisure magazine lists Atlantans among nation's worst dressers.

When it comes to fashion forward, it's a given that New Yorkers, Parisians and Milanese set the style trends that the rest of the world follows.

And Atlantans?

Well, let's just say Hotlanta is a hot mess.

Midtown residents might have a little something to say about that.

Blame Atlanta's showing on The Real Housewives of Atlanta reality series.

The magazine wrote: "If the flashy reality-TV stars of The Real Housewives of Atlanta are at all indicative of how the rest of Atlanta dresses, it's no wonder our readers ranked it as America's No. 7 least-stylish city. Hotlanta has one of the highest per capita incomes of any southern city, but as the TV show illustrates and the saying goes: money can't buy taste."

True, spend any amount of time at Lenox Square Mall on a given weekend, you're likely to see one fashion faux pas after another.

But to be fair, only two of The Real Housewives of Atlanta's cast members actually live in Atlanta. Fashion model Cynthia Bailey, whose modeling agency is in Glenwood Park, calls Atlanta home (Her husband, Peter Thomas, is an owner of Bar One in Grant Park.)

Attorney Phaedra C. Parks also lives in the city.

The rest of the cast — Nene Leakes, Kim Zolciak and Kandi Burruss — all live outside the city limits.

So the city may be getting unfairly saddled with the fashion failures of what passes for style outside the Perimeter.

Here's the full list:

  1. Anchorage, Alaska

  5. San Antonio
  6. Dallas/Ft. Worth
