Central Park Goes Indie Rock for Last Winter Concert

A great lineup of indie rock bands--Mutemath, The Features and Tesla Rossa--wrap up the Winter Wonder Jam series this Saturday at Atlantic Station's Central Park. Local Notes gives you the scoop.

This week is just a little crazy for most of us—what with the last minute shopping and wrapping and travel plans. What you really need this week is to take a break from all the chaos and get into the holiday spirit. For us at Local Notes, the best way to get into holiday mode is to jam out to some awesome music.

The Winter Wonder Jam series wraps up at Atlantic Station this week with a very special performance by Mutemath, with openers The Features and Tesla Rossa. Sounds like a great way to shake off the holiday stress to us, and it certainly doesn’t hurt that the bands will be playing on a stage under Central Park’s giant Christmas tree.

Here’s the scoop on the three acts that will end Winter Wonder Jam with a bang.

Tesla Rossa

Tesla Rossa’s brand of rowdy indie rock is all about showing people a good time. The band’s music takes you back to the roots of rock ‘n’ roll with passionate vocals, bluesy guitar and driving rhythms.

The Features

Forged from the boredom that is small town life, The Features makes indie rock rooted in the band members’ Tennessean heritage. Started by four eighth graders, the band still has two of its founding members many years later. The Features’ songs have that catchy, slightly grungy feel of indie rock, but strong songwriting and keyboards set them apart from the standard four-piece.

The band gained notoriety by opening for Manchester Orchestra and were included on one of the Twilight soundtracks. Get a listen for yourself on The Features’ Bandcamp page.

Mutemath

Electronic alt-rock band Mutemath started as a garage band in New Orleans. Drawing from all types of music, the band puts together music that is full of energy, pulling in the listener. Mutemath’s newest album, “Odd Soul,” is the members’ first self-produced record, was made specifically to compliment the band’s upbeat stage show. The new album incorporates more of a rhythm and blues sound of New Orleans with the band’s signature electronic sound.
