A weekly roundup of all things music in Atlanta. This week: Cee Lo Green gives back; Home Depot denies Black Keys' allegations; Ted Nugent and Brian Jonestown Massacre play in Atlanta.

Cee Lo Launces GreenHouse Foundation

Cee Lo Green and his sister Shedonna Alexander launched their new project, the GreenHouse Foundation, at Southwest Atlanta Christian Academy on Friday. The non-profit organization is aimed at bringing green education to underserved school districts.

The musician and his sister are partnering with the University of Georgia’s Cooperative Extension in Fulton County to provide curriculum support for the program.

GreenHouse was launched on Friday with the unveiling of its first educational greenhouse, located at SACA, Green’s alma mater. The greenhouse is dedicated to the memory of the siblings’ mother, Sheila Callaway Tyler, one of Atlanta’s first African-American female firefighters.

Home Depot Denies Black Keys’ Allegations

In June, alt-rock band The Black Keys submitted a lawsuit saying Atlanta-based Home Depot used its song “Lonely Boys” without permission.

The Black Keys is also alleging Pizza Hut used significant portions of “Gold On the Ceiling” in one of its ads.

Both companies denied the allegations last week and are ready to fight the cases in court.

Ted Nugent at Center Stage

The past few decades with Ted Nugent haven’t exactly been quiet, what with his television appearances, acting gigs and writing career. After all that, you might forget that the Nuge, known for being outspoken on everything from gun control to alcohol, is actually a rock musician.

Nugent comes to Atlanta this week, making a stop on his Great White Buffalo Tour. He plays at Center Stage this Wednesday at 8 p.m. with opener Laura Wilde. Get tickets here.

Check It! Pick of the Week

Brian Jonestown Massacre, the epitome of the 90s psychedelic shoegaze sound, will be at the Variety Playhouse tonight at 8 p.m., playing with Magic Castles. The band has released music pretty much every year since 1993, and its most recent album “Aufheben” came out in May.
