After Routing The Giants Are The Falcons A Shoo-in For The Super Bowl?

A recap of the Falcons blowout win over the Giants Sunday at the Georgia Dome.

Well, it seems that the Atlanta Falcons have proven to the critics, fans and the world that they can defeat an elite team.

Defeat is actually an understatement for what the Falcons done to the reigning Super Bowl champion New York Giants in the Georgia Dome. A beat down or good old fashioned butt-whooping is more feasible as the Falcons gave the Giants their first regular-season shutout in 16 years.

To be honest I kept relatively quiet all week about the upcoming game against the Giants, especially since the humiliating loss last week to the Carolina Panthers. But something in my gut told me that the Falcons weren’t going to lose two games in a row.

The Falcons didn’t waste any time on Sunday as the defense stepped up and picked off Eli Manning on the second play of the game. From that point on Atlanta took total control of the football game. By the end of the fourth quarter Atlanta had held the ball nearly twice as long as New York, and the Giants totaled only 97 yards rushing with a lost fumble. And the defense couldn’t stop Atlanta either on the ground or in the air, as Matt Ryan threw for three touchdowns and an 82 percent completion rate.

The Falcons rout of the Giants keeps the Dirty Birds in line for a first round bye and home field advantage throughout the playoffs. It was a huge win for the Falcons organization because December is the perfect time to get a big win and set the tone for the rest of the NFC and build up momentum that will carry them into the playoffs.

With this win I definitely think the Falcons are ready for the playoffs. I can’t wait to hear what the major media outlets have to say about the Falcons after Sunday’s win. Now I can see Atlanta going toe-to-toe with teams such as San Francisco or Green Bay with no problems.

The rest of the Falcon’s schedule includes a road game against the Detroit Lions next Saturday at 8:30 p.m., and wrapping up the 2012 season the Falcons will host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Dec 30.

After humiliating the New York Giants I’d like to say to all the Falcon’s fans out there it’s looking real good from here on out. Bring on the playoffs and the Super Bowl!
