Falcons Week 14 Report Card: A Big Fat F

A recap of the Atlanta Falcons tough loss to the Carolina Panthers in week 14.

Well Falcons fans here we go again. After Sunday’s huge loss to the last place Carolina Panthers all Falcons fans are left wondering just how good Matt Ryan and company are. If I were a teacher and Sunday’s game were an exam the Falcons would unquestionably get a failing grade.

For the NFC South champion Falcons it was bad from the start. The Panthers, behind a strong showing from quarterback Cam Newton, scored on its first five possessions taking a 23-0 lead by the beginning of the third quarter. Newton, an Atlanta native ended up having a career day with 116 rushing yards and 287 passing yards.

On the other end of the ball it just didn’t appear as if the Falcons were in sync. They couldn’t establish the run and the Carolina secondary for the most part had the Falcons superstar receivers in check.

The game ended with the Falcons being defeated 30-20 and a major blow to the teams momentum as they now prepare to face off against the defending Super Bowl champion New York Giants.

For me next week will tell it all. If the Falcons win or even play the Giants close I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt and say they’ll be just fine and that the Carolina loss was just a hiccup. But if the Falcons fail to show up next week like they did this week I can expect them to be packing their bags early in the playoffs this year.
