Come on Get High(er)!

Looking for something to do Friday night? Spend it listening to smooth Jazz while taking advantage of extended Museum hours at the Atlanta High Museum.

Editor’s note: The following is a review from last month’s Friday Jazz event at the High Museum. Friday Jazz is an evening of art and music held every third Friday of the month with extended hours with full gallery access including special exhibitions. The next such event is set for Friday, Aug.17, 2012 and is free with museum admission as well as free to museum members. This month’s event is being promoted as a special Southern Fried Friday Jazz in with Gary Motley. Southern-inspired food will be available for purchase. See here for more info.

I had been looking for another time to go to the High Museum since purchasing a membership at the Picasso/Warhol exhibit. After viewing the schedule of events, the Jazz Night (held the 3rd Friday of every month ) looked like a perfect next opportunity.

The event attracts quite a crowd, and I was amazed by all the people gathered to watch the show. After purchasing a cocktail and dessert, we snagged some seats. The music was delectable, and there were two bands that each did a set, so we saw and heard two differing jazzy sounds.

At Jazz Night, the High Museum extends the museum hours til 10 pm. At 9:30 pm, we pulled ourselves away from the music making our way for a quick visit to the exhibits. I chose the KAWS: Down Time exhibit as it was one of my favorites from my last visit. That exhibition is no longer there, but if you go this Friday, be sure to check out Picturing New York/Picturing the South
