Saturday Memorial Set for Local Shooting Victim

There will be a visitation period Saturday afternoon in Midtown in memory of Lee Lowery III.

Lowery, 20, was shot and killed Monday afternoon in the breezeway outside a Ponce de Leon Avenue apartment loft complex.

The visitation will be on Saturday, Nov. 17 from 3 – 5 p.m. at H.M. Patterson & Son-Spring Hill Chapel, located at 1020 Spring Street NW,

The well-liked Lowery was a lifelong local resident who grew up in the Morningside neighborhood. He was baptized at Morningside Presbyterian Church and attended school at Morningside Elementary, Inman Middle and was a 2010 graduate of Grady High School, where he played on the soccer team. He entered Georgia State University in September 2010 as a Hope Scholar and had completed his sophomore year.

Lowery is survived by his mother Allison Webb of Atlanta, his father Lee Lowery, Jr. of Greensboro, North Carolina; Grandparents Howard and Betty Webb, Charlotte, North Carolina; and Grandparents Pamela and Charles Leonard, Lexington, North Carolina.

An online Guest Book was started Thursday and a day later had been signed by dozens of family and friends expressing their sympathy over Lowery's tragic death. It read in part:

"Lee made friends easily and kept them close. Many of his friendships reach back to his first years in elementary school. All of his friendships were heartfelt and genuine. It is not possible to express in a few words the accomplishments of a lifetime of daily kindheartedness, but what his then three-year-old cousin Alyssa said years ago as she gazed at a picture of him comes closest, "Leelee, he's my friend."

“Probably one of the most beautiful smiles I've ever seen..."

“Lee you were very sweet and had the biggest smile I've ever seen. I cannot think of a time that you were not being hilarious. I am so sorry you are no longer with us.”

“You're loss has shaken the Grady community. As one of your former teachers, it hurts to the core to know that you were taken from the world. Good luck on your new journey.”

"He loved to make people laugh, I know he made me smile every time I saw him, through a text message...anything...he just had that about him. He helped make Grady the great experience that it was for me. He'll always be remembered.”
