Arrest Made in January Coin Laundry Shooting

The Atlanta Police Department's Homicide Investigation Unit said Tuesday they apprehended a suspected gunman they link to a brazen Old Fourth Ward shootout that occurred on Jan. 14, 2013 outside of a coin laundromat at 628 Boulevard near the North Avenue intersection.

According to police, Marcus Morris, 22, was arrested Monday on warrants for murder and aggravated assault.

In an earlier Patch report, APD said nearly 20 shots were fired that night outside the laundry in the North Plaza strip center. At the time, Officer Kim Jones said during the incident, "a male ran to the officers with a gunshot wound to the torso. That male was transported to Grady Memorial hospital where he is listed in critical condition. A second victim was killed at the scene."

It is not known if the men shot were the intended targets or were just caught in the crossfire. Police believe there were two gunmen who opened fire. One is now in custody.

Last month, a pre-dawn visit to the crime scene after the shooting revealed shattered glass still on the sidewalk outside the laundromat, while an investigative evidence marker indicated where a bullet hit another laundromat window.

The plaza is anchored by the Family Dollar and is also home to a Sherwin Williams and Wings & Subs restaurant.
