Armed Suspect Shot During Search Attempt by Atlanta Police

Narcotics investigators were attempting to serve a search warrant at the home on Welch Street in Southwest Atlanta when the shooting occurred.

Atlanta police narcotics investigators were involved in an officer involved shooting Thursday afternoon in Southwest Atlanta.

Public Affairs Officer John Chaffee said in a release this evening that according to the preliminary investigation, the narcotics investigators were serving a search warrant at 965 Welch St in Southwest Atlanta around 3:30 p.m. when they encountered an armed person.

At some point during the encounter shots were fired and the suspect was struck at least one time. The suspect was transported to Grady Hospital in critical condition.

The suspect's weapon was recovered at the scene and narcotics were located in the home.

At this time the incident remains under investigation and charges are pending, Chaffee said in the release.
