Arrests Made in Morningside Cyclist Attack

One of the suspects has been charged with attempted murder.

Two people are in custody at the Fulton County Jail for suspected involvement in an assault on a cyclist in Morningside in June.

FOX 5 Atlanta and 11 Alive News report that 19-year-old Joseph Alan Lewis was behind the wheel of a red Dodge Nitro when he and cyclist Greg Germani allegedly got into an argument. Police say that Lewis sped off, turned around, and ran down Germani,

The incident happened on Flagler Drive on June 9. Lewis' Dodge Nitro sustained significant front end damage and was abandoned at the Gables Midtown luxury apartment complex.

Police collected evidence which tied Lewis and his 22-year-old girlfriend Shanelle Woodard to the assault, and both were arrested within the last two days.

Fulton County jail records show that Lewis was booked early Thursday morning, and faces charges of attempted murder, reckless driving, hit and run, driving without a license, driving with an expired license plate decal, aggravated assault, first degree criminal damage to property, aggressive driving, serious injury by vehicle, and failure to report an accident.

Woodard was booked on Wednesday for a single county of felony tampering with evidence. Jail records show that this tampering happened on June 11.

Germani, a 25-year veteran of Turner Broadcasting, remains in Grady Memorial Hospital with a broken back and an injury to his brain.
