Civic Center Station Reopens After Suspicious Package Scare

The threat of a suspicious package shut down the MARTA station for approximately three hours Tuesday morning.

A three-hour investigation into a suspicious package left at MARTA's Civic Center station has ended with transit returning to the site.

According to a MARTA tweet sent out at 11:48 a.m., normal service has resumed at the station, and single tracking at Five Points and Peachtree Center stations has ended.

The initial reports, tweeted at 9:35 a.m., did not mention a suspicious package, and said only that "a problem" had caused the Civic Center station to cease operation.

According to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, trains still traveled through the station during the package investigation but did not stop. Additionally, police blocked off traffic on West Peachtree Street near the station.
