Crooks Hit the Midtown Mile and More

Republic of Couture victimized by snatch-and-run thieves, while a nearby T-Mobile store on 5th Street was burglarized hours later.

Thieves made off with stolen property from a pair of Midtown businesses within a 12-hour span this week.

According to Atlanta Police Officer John Chafee, at around 2 p.m. on Wednesday, two males entered the Republic of Couture store along the Midtown Mile and acted as if they were shopping.

They reportedly tried on some clothing and then began to exit the location. The security alarm then sounded and the males fled to a nearby vehicle and left with an unknown number of high-price designer jeans.

A description of the men was not provided by police.

According to a source close to the situation who wished not to be identified, this is the second time in as many weeks that the fashion retailer that opened last year within the 12th & Midtown development has been victimized by snatch-and-run thieves.

Later around 1 a.m., the T-Mobile store near 5th and Spring streets was hit by smash-and-grab bandits.

According to Atlanta Police Officer Kim Jones, investigating officers observed that a “back door had been kicked in and several cell phones appeared to be missing.”

A passerby alerted authorities to the crime after hearing glass break and seeing someone inside. The witness, however, could only give a description of a “male in dark clothing.”

Both investigations are continuing.
